Day four of the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals saw Felix Auger-Aliassime defy injury doubts to see off Ben Shelton in a tense three-set comeback, while Jannik Sinner booked his place in the semi-finals with another composed victory over Alexander Zverev. The Italian extended his indoor unbeaten streak to 28 matches and kept alive his faint hopes of the year-end No.1.
With one round-robin match remaining in each group, there are still three semi-final spots up for grabs, but fans (and ATP money) will be hoping Alcaraz tops his group to avoid a Sinner semi-final showdown.
Are there any scenarios where Carlos doesn’t make it? Yes, ff Musetti beats Alcaraz in 2 sets, Fritz wins the group if he beats De Minaur (in 2 or 3 sets) and Musetti finishes 2nd in both cases. It’s hard to see that happening, because I don’t think Musetti has the legs to do it.

Felix Auger-Aliassime (7) def. Ben Shelton (5) 4-6 7-6(7) 7-5

Felix Auger-Aliassime kept his Nitto ATP Finals semi-final hopes alive with a gritty 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-5 comeback victory over Ben Shelton in Turin on Wednesday, moving to 1-1 in the Björn Borg Group.
After watching the Canadian limp around the court on Monday, I thought he would call his ATP Finals a day and let Bublik come in as an alternate, but he showed absolutely zero signs of any injury, which was a big surprise.
Important match highlights:
First set (4-6, 38 minutes): Shelton dominated early with aggressive serve-and-volley tactics. Auger-Aliassime struggled to find his rhythm, and despite breaking back to 4-5, he dropped serve again immediately to drop the set.
Second set (7-6(7), 58 minutes): Aliassime saved a break point in game seven to build a 5-2 lead in the tie-break, but Shelton rallied to save three set points; however, a double fault on the fourth gave Auger-Aliassime the set
Third set (7-5, 49 minutes): The Canadian found his return game, engaging in rallies, with two break points in game four before finally breaking late after consistent pressure to convert his third match point.
Quote after match (Auger-Aliassime):
He played much better than me in the beginning. It’s not often I get broken twice in the first set indoors… It was a weird start, but as the match went on, I found ways to put returns in the court. Once we got involved in the rally I felt I could win more. You just have to fight, believe and play the next point the right way. I felt great, physically. We recovered well, did the right things. Today I was able to play two and a half hours of high intensity tennis. I have to give him credit; he kept coming with good serves. When the opponent plays that well, you have to give him credit, but also to myself for being cool. Auger-Aliassime on his win.
Broader context:
- Match length: 2 hours, 25 minutes.
- Silence injury concern from Monday’s loss to the Sinners (left calf); moved freely everywhere.
- Indoor records: 86 wins and 7 titles
- Group position: 1-1; still in SF battle.
- Next: Friday against Alexander Zverev in the final round-robin match.

Highlights
Jannik Sinner (2) def. Alexander Zverev (3) 6-4 6-3

Jannik Sinner clinched his semi-final spot at the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals with a commanding 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alexander Zverev in Turin on Wednesday night, moving to 2-0 in the Björn Borg Group.
It was an interesting match, with Sinner once again proving that he’s just a level ahead of Zverev right now, as he plays with more intensity and doesn’t let up when he’s on the front foot.
Even so, I thought Sascha played well in parts, but he just doesn’t do enough of the right things at the right time. Sinner was clutch on most break points, but Zverev’s tendencies to just roll the ball in or refuse to launch a shot when he has the upper hand always prove costly.
Important match highlights:
First set (6-4, 42 minutes): Sinner saved two break points in the opening game with four aces. He broke at 5-4 after winning a 17-ball rally on his third set point when Zverev mistimed a forehand.
Second set (6-3, 38 minutes): Sinner faced 0/40 in his second service game but saved all three break points with first-serve winners. Zverev held another break point at 2-2 30/40, but Sinner escaped before breaking decisively at 4-3 and closing comfortably. Saved all seven break points (total of 12 aces).
Post-match context:
- Match length: 1 hour, 20 minutes.
- Fifth straight win over Zverev; improves to 6-4 in head-to-head (Zverev’s last win: 2023 US Open).
- Streak: Extends indoor hard court winning streak to 28 games; haven’t dropped a set in Turin since the 2023 final.
- First to reach SFs; will face Ben Shelton in the final RR match.
Quote after match (Sinners):
We both changed a bit tactically, so I felt we were both trying to hit pretty fast, pretty flat. But I’m very happy with how I returned his serve. It is very difficult. One of the best serves in the game. The group I’m in, with Sascha and Ben, it’s very difficult to return their serves Sensing his gain.
Broader context:
- End of year no. 1 race: Must win the title undefeated, and Alcaraz must lose on Thursday against Musetti to have any chance of reclaiming the #1.
- Alcaraz (2-0) is practically in SFs (only 2 possible scenarios where he doesn’t qualify); he meets Musetti on Thursday.
- Next: Friday against Ben Shelton in the final round-robin game.
