Carlos Alcaraz (1) def. Taylor Fritz (4) 6-7(2) 7-5 6-3
Carlos Alcaraz cruised past Taylor Fritz in a gripping 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-3 thriller in Turin on Tuesday, moving to 2-0 in the Jimmy Connors Group and staying on course for his maiden Nitto ATP Finals crown.
Important match highlights:
First set (6-7(2), 52 minutes): Alcaraz built a break lead but faltered on serve, allowing Fritz to dominate the tie-break. The American looked comfortable from the baseline and closed out the opening run decisively.
Second set (7-5, 68 minutes): At 2-2, Alcaraz saved a break point with a 14-minute service hold in the fifth game, with a stunning rally and net charge for a volley winner. He broke in the 12th game on a net cable return of 0/15, wrong-footed Fritz and converted his second set point. He saved both break points in the set.
Third set (6-3, 48 minutes): Alcaraz took control early, breaking and maintaining the pressure with aggressive shots to seal the comeback. He improved to 5-1 in their ATP Head2Head series.
Quote after the match (Alcaraz):
It was quite tight, I fought more than him in the first set. I didn’t serve well, and I think he was pretty comfortable from the baseline, everywhere… I was really relieved after the win because of everything I went through during the match. I didn’t feel the ball as well as I did in the first round, but I’m really glad I found a way to come back and find weakness from him. Alcaraz on his win.
Broader context:
- Match length: 2 hours, 48 minutes.
- On the brink of knockout stages: Could have taken the SF spot if De Minaur had beaten Musetti later on Tuesday but is still virtually qualified.
- End of year no. 1 race: Now just need 50 more points to secure over Sinner (a RR win or better).
- Next: Thursday against Lorenzo Musetti in the last round-robin match.

Highlights
Lorenzo Musetti (8) def. Alex de Minaur 7-5 3-6 7-5

Lorenzo Musetti kept his Nitto ATP Finals hopes alive with a dramatic 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 comeback victory over Alex de Minaur in Turin on Tuesday night, earning his first ever victory in the season finale and moving to 1-1 in the Jimmy Connors Group.
It was a high quality match with very good shot creation and crowd involvement. Musetti started the strongest, but he faded in the 2nd, and once he dropped that set, it looked like he was running on fumes.
But he somehow found a second wind in the final set, and after the brief delay due to a medical emergency in the audience (why are they so prevalent now?) somehow got back into it.
Should de Minaur lose such a match? No chance and that’s perhaps why he has a 2-19 record against the top 10 in his last 23 games.
Important match highlights:
First set (7-5, 48 minutes): Musetti rode the home crowd’s energy, hitting the ball with weight and intent. He broke late to seal the opener, feeding off a scrappy support and showing renewed aggression compared to the loss to Fritz.
Second set (3-6, 42 minutes): De Minaur raised the intensity, dictating with speed and consistency. Musetti faded and struggled to find solutions as the Australian leveled the match.
Third set (7-5, 77 minutes): Trailing 3-5, Musetti staged a fantastic fightback. He saved match point while De Minaur was serving at 5-4, broke back after a 31-shot rally (with a forehand tweener) and won the last four games. He sealed the victory with a forehand pass winner on his second match point. Musetti now leads his Head2Head series 3-0 in 2025 (also won Monte Carlo and Madrid on clay).
Quote after the match (Musetti):
I really struggled physically because Alex raised the level and the intensity and I really struggled to find the solution. But at the end with a big heart and a big passion for this game, I don’t know from where, I started to feel better and play better and the crowd support is amazing. I have to thank them all. I am a warrior. I have improved a lot on the mental side and I push myself to the limit because I play every match against the top players. Next up is against Carlos. I know how difficult it is, especially under these conditions. I will try to enjoy and fight like I did today. Musetti on his win.
Broader context:
- Match length: 2 hours, 47 minutes.
- Performance: First top 10 win on hard courts in 2025; first Nitto ATP Finals victory.
- Musetti’s statistics in 2025: Career best record 45–21, Finals at Monte-Carlo, Chengdu, Athens.
- Group position: All four players (Alcaraz 2-0, Musetti/Fritz 1-1, De Minaur 0-2) still in SF contention.
- Next: Thursday against Carlos Alcaraz in the final round-robin match.
