Thomas Rhett has called in a new voice to breathe new life into “Old Tricks” — and it is none other than Niall Horan. The two artists have teamed up for a reworked version of Rhett’s fan-favorite song, OUT NOW via The Valory Music Co./Universal Music.
Originally featured on the deluxe edition of Rhett’s seventh studio album “About a Woman” with guest vocals from Blake Shelton, “Old Tricks” is a witty, soul-drenched reflection on aging, ego and the lessons that never quite stick. For the new interpretation, Horan trades the original’s Southern grit for a softer pop texture – but keeps the song’s playful charm intact.

“Niall and I have been friends for six or seven years now – every time I’m over in the UK or he’s in Nashville we always try to hook up. We’d been talking about doing something together for a long time, but I never imagined it would be this song,” Thomas said in a statement. “I was at the Masters this year and went to hang out with Niall and Noah Kahanand out of nowhere Niall goes: ‘I’m so mad you didn’t ask me to sing on “Old Tricks”‘. i said “Man, you were the last person I thought would even like this!” He kept texting me about it afterwards and he knew all the words. With how excited he was and his connection with Blake it felt like a full circle moment and turned into something really fun. I’m stoked it’s finally out there and hope you all love it as much as we loved making it.”
Echoing the sentiment of the duo’s friendship, Niall added: “I’ve known Thomas Rhett for years now and every time we’re in the same city we catch up like no time has passed. I actually heard “Old Tricks” by chance one day when I was in the studio with my friend and producer Julian Bunetta who worked on the song. It came on and I was instantly hooked. I told Thomas Rhett straight up that I was gutted that he didn’t ask me to jump on it. I just loved everything about it, it’s a real country song. The next thing I know, I’m in the studio laying down the vocals. It felt easy, natural, like it was always meant to happen. I’m buzzing for people to finally hear it.”
The duet marks a bold crossover moment for both artists: for Rhett, it’s a step toward the pop mainstream, while Horan ventures deeper into country narratives. The result is a seamless blend of Nashville’s Polish and Irish-born pop sensibilities – proof that good melodies and honest lyrics know no genre boundaries.
