Shanghai Masters 2025 Day Eight Recap

Day eight at Shanghai Rolex Masters 2025 wrapped up the round of 16 with the lower half that puts its quarter final match -ups.

Daniil Medvedev survived an almost three-hour scrap with 19-year-old student Tien, Alex de Minaur cruised into his seventh Masters 1000 quarter finals, Felix Auger-A-Aliassime continued his late season fee, and Arthur Rinderknech continued quietly.

Meddvedev – Tien match was the prominent, a tactical grinding that twist between shine and physical degradations because both players fought under the moist conditions.

The disgusting texture of the minur once again turned out too much for Nuno Borges, while Auger-Aliassime produced one of his sharpest screens of the season to dismiss Lorenzo Musetti, which has endured a severe Asian swing both on and outside the court.

Rinderknech, meanwhile, backed up his victory over Zverev by beating Jiri Lehecka to go with cousin Valentin Vacherot in the quarterfinals

With Sinner, Alcaraz and Zverev away, and an injured Djokovic visibly run on vapors in the other half, the scene is set to Medvedev, the Minaur or Auger-Alyssim to take full advantage.

Daniil Medvedev Def. Teacher Tien 7-6 (6), 6-7 (1), 6-4

Daniil Medvedev overcame a late second set of cramps to defeat the student Tien in a gripping 2-hour, 53-minute battle.#

After failing to close the first set of 5-4 and lost the second canceled tiebreak when cramps immobilized their right leg, gathered Medvedev in the decisive and broke in the ninth game to win their first victory in three H2h meetings with the 19-year-old

It was a pretty fascinating clock, as none of the guy could break through the other, which made it a complete grinding party. It usually spells boredom for the viewer, but this one was about maneuvering each other around, and Meddy is one of the best at finding out things from the baseline. His reward for almost 3 hours on court is a match with Road Runner Alex de Minaur.

Alex de Minaur Def. Nuno Borges 7-5, 6-2

The seventh seed Alex de Minaur noted his 50th victory at the turn level in 2025 and defeated Nuno Borges in 1 hour, 47 minutes to reach his seventh Masters 1000 quarter finals.

This is the type of Masters 1000 that Aussie could squeeze, which without the big boys around, it is ripe for any of his playing style to land it. Vulturing? Maybe, but he has put himself in many good positions this season in many tournaments.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Def. Lorenzo Musetti (8) 6-4, 6-2

The 12th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime delivered a clinical 85-minute upset over the eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti, reached the Shanghai quarter finals and closed and further increased his ATP finals.

The Canadian form converted three out of six break points and saved all three to defeat Musetti, which was once again annoyed by Chinese fans who coughed during their service games.

He was called racist and was forced to apologize for making the following remarks in Beijing: “They always cough, these damn Chinese. They always cough, for fucks. They cough every three seconds”

I did not comment on it then, but he should never have apologized for it, and when it comes to racism, that term is basically suspended. It was a fair observation. Should he be able to handle it? Probably. Can he, however, complain about it? Sure.

Arthur Rinderknech Def. Jiri Lehecka 15) 6-3, 7-6 (5)

Arthur Rinderknech backed up his upset by Alexander Zverev with a straight victory over the 15th Frö Jiri Lehecka and reached his first Masters 1000 quarter finals and joined Cousin Vacherot in the last eight. Not a bad week for these guys, and while I think Rinderknech is a tough clock, a couple of matches do not seem to be excluded for him.
