Shanghai Masters 2025 Day Seven Recap

Day seven at Shanghai Rolex Masters 2025 delivered a night with comebacks and cramps when the tournament’s bottom half produced four brutal round with 16 battles.

Novak Djokovic again defied his body to scrape through, Holger Rune fought fire with fire to dampen Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and Qualifier Valentin Vacherot continued his fairy tales with another late in the evening.

The day started with Zizou Bergs saving match points to Edge Gabriel Diallo in a final tiebreak and finished close to 1 am when Vacherot became the first Monegasque player ever to reach a Masters 1000 quarter.

Djokovic’s physical fighters, including vomiting, limp and an ankle problem, did not prevent him from finding a way past Jaume Munar to record his 11th Shanghai quarter final.

With Sinner, Zverev and Fritz, everyone is gone, Djokovic, the Minaur and Musetti are the only 10 best players left. But based on how this tournament has developed, it remains wide open.

Holger Rune Def. Giovanni Mpeshi Pericard 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3

The tenth seed Holger Rune lined closer to its second ATP Masters 1000 title and surpassed the large serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in a 2-hour, 30-minute battle.

The Danen, who won his lonely Masters 1000 krona in Paris in 2022, treated well with Perricard’s serve, broke in the first match in the decision and never allowed the Frenchman any real inroads to break back.

Perricard used an upcoming style, which worked well for him, so it will be interesting to see if he claims that tactics during the European indoor swing and he needs more strings for his bow than just the service.

Novak Djokovic Def. Jaume munar 6-3, 5-7, 6-2

Novak Djokovic struggled through physical challenges-left ankle pain, humidity exceeding 82%and roads that vomited to defeat Jaume Munar in an astonishing 2-hour, 40-minute collision.

Djoker looks like he has nothing left in the thought, but still finds a way to get it done. Some fans say he plays Possum and falsifies the problems, but no matter what is the case, the guy is one of the best ever to find a way to win matches.

This one had several medical timeouts and collapsed after losing the second set, but he took advantage of a crucial mouth error (a missed crusher of 0-0, 40/15 in the third) to break serve and dominate the deciser from there.

Valentin Vacherot Def. Tallon Griekspoor 4-6 7-6 (1) 6-4

The qualifier Valentin Vacherot became the first Monegasque player to reach a quarter final at the tour level and defeated the 27th seed of Tallon Griekspoor 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-4 in a 2-hour, 22-minute battle which finished just before 1 AM local time.

Vacherot has the skyrocket up the ranking, and he played a lot of connection today and saved 6 break points on 4-6, 5-5 (0-40) with large serving and a thriving backhand down the line winner. I’ve ever ever seen him play once or twice, when he secured a joke sign into his local tournament in Monte Carlo. But since he returned from the injury he suffered in the Wimbledon qualification last year, he has sought several top-50 victories and is now in the last eight on a Masters 1000.
