Shanghai Masters 2025 Day Six Recap

Day six at Shanghai Rolex Masters 2025 saw the last eight places in the round of 16 decided and another large seed tumble.

Alexander Zverev, one of the remaining favorites after the exits of Alcaraz and Sinner, was stunned by Arthur Rinderknech, who again proved his nemesis in a compound three comeback.

While Zverev’s loss further blew the draw wide open, Daniil Medvedev held his speed with a straight victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, although Russian looked drained as the humid conditions continued to take their toll.

Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti both advanced in straight sets, while Felix Auger-Aliassime strengthened his late season Turin-Push with a different safe performance.

Today’s history, however, belonged to the 19-year-old student Tien, who supported his previous victories with a composite victory over Cameron Norrie to reach his first Masters 1000 round of 16.

Arthur Rinderknech stunned the world no. 3 Alexander Zverev for the second time in 2025, rally from a set to reach the round of 16.

The Frenchman, who previously beat Zverev at Wimbledon, dominated at Netto (24/29 points won in sets two and three) and capitalized on Zverev’s fatigue, with the German visible fighting in the decisive.

It is a significant loss for Sascha, as the tournament is now wide open without Alcaraz and sinner. When it is sown, it is his tournament to win, and one he should be in a good position to do so if he is right in his assessment that only the two players are before him.

Alex de Minaur Def. Kamil Majchrzak 6-1, 7-5

The seventh seed Alex de Minaur secured his 36th hard -court victory in 2025 and defeated Kamil Majchrzak in 1 hour and 27 minutes.

The Breaking Serve five times, including twice after releasing 3-4 in the second set, they have done the Minaur’s consistency this season, and he is well ready to take advantage of a tournament win when he does not encounter anyone in the top 10.

Teacher Tien Def. Cameron Norrie (30) 7-6 (4), 6-3

The American student Tien, 19, continued his rise and defeated the 30th seed of Cameron Norrie to reach his first Masters 1000 round of 16. Tien has flew under the radar compared to Fonseca, but he has had a solid Asian swing and has a very strong game.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Def. Jesper de Jong 6-4, 7-5

Twelfth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime continued his Shanghai campaign with a strong performance and defeated Jesper de Jong to move on and strengthen his bid at the ATP finals.

Before the US Open, Felix was performances at the big events Tama, but he has taken up many points at the smaller events this year, and after the quarters in Cincy and Semis in New York he is with a shot at making top 8 in Turin.

Daniil Medvedev Def. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 7-6 (5)

Daniil Medvedev expanded his strong Asian swing form with a hard -fought, straight victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The 1-hour, 45-minute battle saw Medvedev dominate the opener with the exact baseline return before Fokina mounted a fightback in the second set, which forced a tiebreak where Meddy’s clutch served the victory.

Meddy has a record of 9-3 in Shanghai, but he looked bony towards the end of the match, and we saw in Beijing that the humidity can affect him when he cramps. Tien is his next opponent who can be interesting.
