Romanian operator SuperBet paid an incredible € 30 million over several customers following a catastrophic error at the casino.
Earlier this month, players were able to take advantage of a “technical error” and played a casino game called Fire Blaze Red Wizard by Playtech, which was reported to generate guaranteed returns on each spin for several hours.
Superbet confirmed the event but did not reveal what caused the error. When the error was discovered, the word was quickly spread across the player forum and more than 7,500 accounts played the game and shook tens of millions of euros combined before the error was corrected.
The operator then frozen Player accounts, which created concern that payments would be canceled under the industry’s standard rules “Melfunction Hoids All Play”.
Despite this, in a never -previously seen decision, SuperBet blocked all accounts and took it on the chin – telling customers that all profits would be honored.
In a statement to players, the book maker wrote: “We are known as investment and casino operator who pays every profit, regardless of the amount. Like those who accept all bets and all shares on games. And we don’t want it to change.”
According to SBC, it is the largest technical payment registered in European games. Superbet’s decision to pay out was driven by a need to protect brand confidence and its image in Romania’s gaming market despite the cost of devastating financial damage.
Superbet was founded in 2008 by Romanian technical entrepreneur Sacha Drungic and has since grown into one of the country’s leading technology companies and employers.
In a similar case earlier this year, Britain’s Supreme Court decided that Paddy Power had to pay as much as 1 million £ Jackpot to a player who had been told that the figure she saw on her screen was a display error.
Superbet was understandably anxious to avoid a dispute in court and the price of reputation injuries is usually difficult to recover from.
