Fresh from the release of its third album, IntertiaCanadian Rocker grandchildren played through both old Bangers and new tracks at a pop-up show in the hometown in Toronto on September 11. This marks this first album as an independent artist and third to date.
Although there was no entrance fee, the fans were encouraged to donate to the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Despite the surprise message, the line was wrapped towards the sidewalk and down the street and buzzes with expectation on the coming night.
This was a real grandchild show: an avid audience of all ages (yes, over the arena 19+ rule) and social strata. Despite Intertia After being out just shy for a week, it might as well have been full of fan -favorite classics. This audience had no problems at all singing, screaming and screaming the words as if they had had the album for repeat for several years, while grandchildren and the band ordered the stage from beginning to end. Kicks in the evening with “Bury you”, it set the tone for the night and sends the energy through the ceiling. Other prominent fan favorite tracks from INERTIA Was “selfimporation” and “you made me this way”, within some songs the fans had opened the pit and knocked it out together.
Grandchildren have proven that he not only captivates a crowd, whether it is a Lagerpop-up as tonight or a festival set. He becomes part of it and is not afraid to do so, whether it goes through the crowd to the stage before opening up the night with, or packs the show that jumps into the crowd with his classic “Blood // Water” as a finisher.
It was clear that grandchildren are an artist who joins his audience and is definitely here to stay. He has never shot away from speaking to injustice in the world, thus inspiring his audience to do the same. This fear is widespread in his music, among collaborators such as Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, and we can’t wait to see what is next for him in his new journey as an independent artist.
