Walt Disney Animation Studios has lifted the curtain on its next original animated function, HexadWith a theatrical debut locked for November 2026. The announcement came Saturday during Walt Disney Studios Showcase on Destination D23: A trip around the world in DisneyHeld at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Revealed by Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios, Hexad Tells the story of an awkward teenage boy whose so -called “weirdness” is revealed to be hidden magical powers. Together with his perfectionist, type-a mother, he is thrown into a secret world of magic that threatens to reverse both their life and rules for the hidden world-upward.
The official log line describes the condition as: “A difficult teenage boy and his type-a-mom discover that what makes him unusual, maybe just magical forces that will turn their lives and a secret world of magic, upside down.”
The film is directed by Josie Trinidad (Zootopia+) and Jason’s hand (Moana 2), by producing tasks handled by Oscar winner Roy Coni (Big hero 6) and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones (Charm). While Disney has not yet shared casting and other details, the project is already being discussed as a potential metaphor for themes of difference and neurodivervenance, although how the studio will explore these ideas remains to be seen.
Saturday’s announcement was part of a packed Disney Slate reveal, hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown, who also delivered updates on Zootopia 2The Toy Story 5The Faith: aresand Ice time: Coking point. Pixar, Disney’s sister studio, also preview his 2026 edition Containerdirected by Daniel Chong (We only bears: the movie).
With HexadDisney continues its driving force for original stories together with sequels to established Franchises and aims to balance new concepts with the safety of heavy hit. As 2026 release date approaches, more information about the role, animation style and soundtrack will emerge. For now, Hexad stands as the studio’s coolest new title on the horizon – mixing of family dynamics, the fantasy adventure and a reminder that what makes us different may be what saves us.
