Jack Antonoff has released the official soundtrack to Ethan Coen’s latest movie Honey not!, Marks a rare creative overlap between 11 o’clock Grammy-winning producer and his wife, actor Margaret Qualley, who plays in the film with Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans. The audio track, now via Antonoff’s shadow of the city label in collaboration with Dirty Hit, mixes original compositions from the famous composer Carter Burwell with new music produced by Antonoff.
The project represents the first time Jack Antonoff has created music for a function starring. IN Honey not!Qualley plays Honey O’Donahue, a small city investigator confused in a bizarre murder case linked to a cult leader, depicted by Evans. Plaza, Talia Ryder and Charlie Day round the ensemble in what Coen has described as the second post in their “lesbian B-film trilogy” after last year’s last year Docks.

The album weaves together Burwell’s dark comic points with Antonoff’s curation of original tracks. Among the highlights: a blowing cover of the Animal 1965 -Hit “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” recorded by Brittany Howard, was introduced in the Grammy Hall of Fame 2011; A playful role -playing play by Carl Perkins’ Rockabilly Classic “Honey Don’t!”; And songs performed under fictional personalities “Lace Manhattan” and “Dixie Normus”, the movie Alter Egos of Qualley and Ryder.
This is not the first time Antonoff and Qually’s relationship has crossed with music. Lana del Reys 2023-song “Margaret”-Co-written and co-produced with Antonoff-inspired by Qualley himself. But Honey not! Marks the couple’s most direct collaboration so far, with Qualley, both of which have the lead role in the film and lends their voice to several tracks.
Burwell’s presence bands too Honey not! to a broader coen tradition for music that plays an important role in the story. His Oscar-nominated score for CarolThe Three signs outside Ebbing, Missouriand Banshees of Inishherin is generally regarded as modern classics. And in the COEN filography, soundtracks have often survived the films themselves: O brother, where are you? topped Billboard 200 and won a Grammy for this year’s album, while The ballad of buster scruggs gave an Oscar-nominated song.
Still, the film itself has shared critics since the premiere at Cannes. While praised for his role and absurdist style, Honey not! Has struggled to win over reviewers, with Rotten Tomatoes that is currently listing it in the mid-40s. Some media praised Qually’s performance and the eccentric support figures, while others criticized its uneven tone and lack of narrative cohesion.
Still the music can prove to be Honey not!Lasting inheritance. Between Antonoff’s involvement, Howard’s Powerhouse cover and Qualley who go into a musical spotlight, the soundtrack offers more than one companion – it gives the film a cultural foothold in addition to its cash office and critical reception.
Honey not! Now plays in theaters, with the soundtrack available on streaming platforms and physical formats.
