Legendary guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induator Steve Miller was honored with 2025 Les Paul Spirit Award During a special celebration held Monday evening (June 9) at Gibson Garage in Nashville.
The tribute kept a special resonance for the artist: The date marked what would have been Les Paul’s 110th birthday, and Miller, who shared a deep personal connection to the late guitar innovator as his godson, accepted the award in a moment as mixed heritage, memory and music.
The prize is presented annually by the Les Paul Foundation in collaboration with Gibson Gives and recognizes the award Artists who embodies Les Paul’s groundbreaking contribution to music, technology and creative innovation. Former recipients include Bob Weir, Nile Rodgers, Peter Frampton and The Edge.

Michael Braunstein, CEO of the Les Paul Foundation, awarded the award following remarks from Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian and Marketing Manager Beth Heidt. All three emphasized Miller’s decades long trailblazing career and his influence on modern guitar music qualities that are close to Les Paul’s groundbreaking ethos.
The physical price itself with the physical price is of special importance. It is designed from acoustic wooden boards that are carved by Les Paul for use in their home studio, which provides a concrete connection to the inheritance of the late icon. In a further tribute, the Les Paul Foundation announced a contribution in Miller’s name to jazz on the Lincoln Center’s Music Education Program, a reason personally chosen by Miller.
Steve Miller, who took the stage after accepting the honor, reflected on the mentoring and inspiration that Les Paul offered him throughout his life. He then performed a lively set of his signature hits, including “The Joker” and “Fly Like An Eagle”, to a variety of fans, musicians and industry side. The evening culminated with a rare and meaningful celebration where personal history and musical heritage converge.
