Sinner Jaunts past the Jong

Jannik Sinner secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the Dutch happy loser Jesper de Jong on Monday and continued to the fourth round in just an hour and 35 minutes.

Played at Campo Centrale before the sinner overcame a brief decay in the first set after losing a breaking advantage.

He quickly regained control and broke Jong at 4-4 to pass the set. The second set saw the sinner raising their game, while Jong struggled after injuring their right wrist in a case of 1-3, 40/15.

The Dutch received a medical timeout of 2-3, with the wrist heavily strapped, and although he continued, his movement and shot were compromised visible.

From that point it was non-competing, but it was fair game for the Jong to stay out there, as many players would have packed it.

Before that, he had given the sinner a decent match, but the Italian’s exact ball that beats is on another level, and his ability to play the most attacking brand Tennis on tour while keeping it on a high percentage is unmatched.

Sinner is now facing Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round after the Argentine defeated Sebastian Ofner 6-2, 6-4. Cerundolo has a 2-2 record against sinners in their head-to-head, including a victory over the Italian in Rome last year, so hopefully that’s good.
