Alcaraz starts strongly

Alcaraz RomeAlcaraz Rome

Carlos Alcaraz marked his return from injury with a commander 6-3, 6-3 victory over Dusan Lajovic on Friday and secured his tour leader 25th victory in 2025.

The span was on the side of Madrid because of an adductor question, but despite having his thigh Bandt, he certainly moved at Campo Centrale and always had too much for Lajovic. He landed 20 winners in 82 minutes, and Serbian has not won a place in any of his five meetings.

The body is doing well. I moved well and did some good sprints today without pain and that is good. It was a test for me and I think I passed the test. I tried to feel more comfortable in court. Move and do not think about the damage. Alcaraz on his first match back.

Rune rallies past Comesana

Rune RomeRune Rome

Holger Rune defeated Francisco Comesana in an astonishing three-set match, with a final result of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The match lasted for almost three hours, and Rune overcame a challenging day in the office to set up a collision with Corentin Moutet.

Willsana took the first set and despite releasing the second, led by a break in the third, just to see Dane win six of the last eight matches to move on.

Rune, who has had some injuries to late, encountered intense pressure. He saved 18 out of 20 break points, including a marathon 20-minute service game where he cut off seven break points to avoid falling further behind.

Before tonight, he had only saved 53.3% of the break points this season, which is weak for a guy near the top of men’s games, but today’s 90% really bumps on average.

Although he committed 59 unthreated errors and expressed frustration over the judicial conditions, the former finalist has the days where he is extremely resistant, and today was one of them.

Other matches of notes

Lorenzo Musetti continued his stellar clay-court form and sent the qualifier Otto Virtanen 6-3, 6-2 in 86 minutes.

World No. 9, with an 18-4 record on clay since his Olympic bronze in Paris, showed his brand that passed shots to tighten the Italian audience.

Musetti stands a Monte-Carlo-Finn and Madrid Semifinalist this season, Musetti meets American Brandon Nakashima next when he tries to maintain his speed at Clay-Court Masters 1000 events.

The Italian Wild Card Francesco Fitto delivered a statement victory and defeated Grigor Dimitrov 7-5, 6-3 to remain undefeated (4-0) against the top 30 opponents.

I felt this would be an upset, and the 24-year-old gathered from a breakdown in the first set and dominated behind his first serving and won 83% of points.

Karen Khachanov is waiting in the next round, with the home crowd stuck behind the fitto Breakout campaign.

Arthur Fils advanced to the third round with a clinical 6-2, 6-2 route by Tallon Griekspoor, an impressive victory considering the Dutch Super Fast Serving.

Fils are now facing Stefanos Tsitsipas, who overcome Alexandre Muller 6-2, 7-6 (3). Tsitsipas, a quarter finalist in five of his last seven Rome performances, has switched back to his Wilson leaf after a brief attempt with a Babolat frame. Will he return to his clay court best?

2023 Master Daniil Medvedev opened his Rome campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the lucky loser Cameron Norrie. The exact and compound Russian will meet Alexei-poppyrin after the Australian edge Carlos Taberner 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Later in the day, Jack Draper delivered a leading performance to beep down the home crowd on Friday and launched his internenzionali BNL d’Italia campaign with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over the local favorite Luciano Darden.

I was unsure whether Draper would back up his driving in Madrid, but he stormed through the first set in just 24 minutes, broke Dardener’s serve three times and made him with 12 winners to one.

The second set was closer, but Draper is dangerous with a lead, and he saved all six break points that he met to secure the victory in straight sets.

Next up for the fifth seed is Czech qualifying white Kopriva, which upset the 32nd seed Sebastian Baez 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
