The spotlight is back on Broadway when the 78th annual nominations in the Tony Award capture a season full of bold stories, groundbreaking productions and movie star power. Tied at the top with 10 nominations each, “Buena Vista Social Club”, “Death becomes her”, and “perhaps happy ending” shows off an exciting range – from continents, nostalgic joy and high camps to futuristic romance – which gives the theatrical innovation alive and thriving on Great Way.
This year’s range reflects a powerful Hollywood-to-Broadway pipeline, with George Clooney, Sarah Snook, Bob Odenkirk and Sadie Sink among the marking names honored. Clooney’s Commanding Stage debut in “Good Night, and Good luck” and Snook’s form shifting performance in “The Picture of Dorian Gray” marks a season where screen legends brought fresh energy and box office-surrisen to the scene. The efforts are high and the talent is soaring.
When the countdown to June 8 begins, theater fans are for an exciting showdown, with beloved revivals, bold new works and some unexpected, heading-tasting guys already sparkling. The 78th Tony Awards host the Tony winner and Oscar -nominated Cynthia Erivo, and promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Broadway’s finest.
